Crazy 8s Brainstorming
To generate ideas for my first game idea effectively, I used the Crazy 8’s Brainstorming method where I came up with 8 ideas in eight minutes. This rapid fire approach helped me find a game idea that I could flesh out with other ideas from ideas generated from this brainstorm. For example: I am currently leaning towards ‘Two Paths’, but I can flesh it out with ideas from ‘Past Whispers’.
Game Idea I - Concept I ‘Past Whispers’
- Concept: A journey where the protagonist is haunted by ‘whispers’ of their past. Each choice to follow or ignore these whispers leads to branching paths and memories of unresolved conflicts or lost dreams.
- Core Conflict: Resolving or confronting lingering regrets from the protagonist’s past.

Game Idea I - Concept II ‘Overcome’
- Concept: Players control a character ascending a mountain to rediscover their identity. Along the way, they face ghosts from their past who test their willpower, presenting challenges that symbolize their lost memories.
- Core Conflict: Persistence in the face of self-doubt, as players uncover who the protagonist once was.
Game Idea I - Concept III ‘Resolve’
- Concept: Players gather ‘resolve’ fragments by facing personal fears, regrets, or moments of doubt in a broken world. Each fragment builds the protagonist’s strength and allows them to piece together their story.
- Core Conflict: Building self-confidence through difficult choices and encounters with past failures.
Game Idea I - Concept IV ‘Two Paths’
- Concept: Players on a surreal journey with two guiding voices one representing desire, the other doubt. At each decision point, they must choose which voice to follow, with each path revealing different aspects of the protagonist’s identity.
- Core Conflict: The internal struggle between desire and doubt, where each choice shapes the protagonist’s journey of self-discovery.
Game Idea I - Concept V ‘Tower of Trials’
- Concept: A game about climbing a symbolic tower, where players face reflections of themselves at various levels.
- Core Conflict: Balancing ambition and contentment, with echoes revealing the cost of the protagonist’s drive.
Game Idea I - Concept VI ‘Infinite Crossroads’
- Concept: Players go on a journey where they repeatedly encounter crossroads, each path representing a different value. Each choice reveals fragments of the protagonist’s story and shapes their character.
- Core Conflict: Navigating personal values and the inner conflict of making meaningful choices.
Game Idea I- Concept VII ‘Split World’
- Concept: Players navigate two sides of a split world, each representing different aspects of the protagonist’s mind. The player must switch between the two worlds to overcome obstacles, with each world offering unique abilities and challenges.
- Core Conflict: Balancing ambition with caution to find harmony in the protagonist’s internal journey.
Game Idea I - Concept VIII ‘Past Mistakes’
- Concept: Set in a world filled with mirrors that reflect the protagonist’s fears and ambitions. Players navigate by confronting or avoiding reflections that offer advice, shortcuts, or dangers, shaping the protagonist’s growth.
- Core Conflict: Choosing between paths that reflect doubt or courage, shaping the protagonist’s journey and self-image.

Tier list Feedback Session
Having come up with some random ideas on my own, I also wished to receive feedback from some of my friends. I presented all 8 of my rough ideas to them and proceeded to make a tier list based on what ideas the majority of them liked most and the ideas that they liked the least.
