The target audience for games centred around conflict includes players who seek deep, immersive experiences that go beyond mere gameplay to explore complex narratives. These players would be interested in games that challenge them to think critically, perhaps make tough choices and experience a range of emotions. The audience spans various age groups, primarily young adults who are interested in games with strong narratives and character-driven stories.

The ‘Bartle Taxonomy of Player Types’ provides a framework for understanding the motivations of players based on four categories: Achievers, Explorers, Socialisers and Killers. This model helps to identify which types of players would be most drawn to my games, particularly those that emphasise narrative depth, moral choices and immersive experiences.

Target Audience Analysis Using the Bartle’s Taxonomy

Explorers

Explorers are drawn to uncovering hidden elements and discovering the complexities of the game world. They enjoy understanding storylines, lore and complex environments.

Games with deep narrative layers and complex character development strongly appeal to Explorers. In the context of my game ideas which revolve around conflict, they’ll enjoy uncovering the motivations behind conflicts, diving into character backstories and exploring ethical dilemmas.

Achievers

Achievers are goal-oriented players who enjoy completing challenges and progressing through accomplishments. They value rewards, status and recognition within the game.

While Achievers may engage with conflict-themed games for the sense of progression, they are primarily drawn to how their choices impact outcomes. They enjoy accumulating achievements and unlocking different endings or character arcs, driven by a sense of completion.

Socializers

Socializers enjoy forming connections with other players or NPCs, seeking meaningful relationships and social interactions.

While conflict-focused single-player games may not initially appeal to Socializers, adding character-driven narratives and meaningful relationships can engage them. Socializers will connect with games that emphasise interpersonal conflicts, alliances and the effects of decisions on character relationships.

Killers

Motivation: Killers are competitive and enjoy direct challenges, often focusing on dominance and impactful action. They enjoy quick decisions, high-stakes moments and intense gameplay mechanics.

While Killers are drawn to action elements, they will also appreciate conflict themes that allow them to engage in morally complex scenarios where their choices create significant impacts. Conflict-driven games with immersive FPS or RPG mechanics can appeal to them, particularly if there’s a strategic or challenging element to overcoming opponents.
